A COMPREHENSIVE ATLAS, GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL & COMMERCIAL, 1835

Thomas G. Bradford
Printed by William D. Ticknor, Boston; Wiley & Long, New York
Atlas 13x11 inches

This volume, the first edition, contains the first state of the first separate map of Texas in an atlas. Many also consider it the first map of the Republic of Texas, though two pages of accompanying text describe it as a "province of Mexico...at present engaged in an arduous struggle for independence." The Texas map (8x10.5 inches) is modeled after Austin's map, with the original land grants shown, named, and bordered in color. The atlas contains 182 pages, with 48 maps of North America and the United States, 18 of the rest of the world, and many views and tables plus extensive text. A stain at top right on the cover and part of the upper fore-edge affects just the top right margins of some maps. The Texas map's margin is only lightly touched.
