Though dated 1703 in the cartouche, this is Delisle's own first reissue of that historically significant map, termed "one of the great maps, taking place among this great scientific mapmaker's towering landmarks of Western cartographic development" (Carl Wheat). The map also influenced mapmakers profoundly in their delineation of the Mississippi Valley and of the course of the great river itself. Fine condition and margins on lightly aged paper; slight wrinkle in centerfold at top; repair at lower centerfold. Shading at lower left is not visible on map.
