CARTE D'UNE PARTIE DE L'AMERIQUE... NLE. ESPAGNE...LA LOUISIANE... 1782M. De Pages/Robert Benard, Paris A handsome and seldom-seen map of the Spanish colonial period. De Pages, a French nobleman and Navy captain, crossed the "Province de los Texas" (a very early use of that spelling) on horseback as a private traveler in the summer of 1767 in the company of the Spanish governor of Texas. This map is from the first edition of his book, "Voyages Autour du Monde..." A dotted line tracks Pages' arrival in New Orleans, up the Red River to Natchitoches via canoe, switching to horseback through Texas to San Antonio, Mexico City and eventually Acapulco. Very nice later color and condition. Narrow margins, but sufficient to mat and frame. $1,250 (SW169) |
